Reflecting on 2 Corinthians 9:11 this Thanksgiving (11.28.19)

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to GOD. - 2 Corinthians 9:11

Happy Thanksgiving!

Faith Family,
Today, many will gather around tables filled with much food. But will they be thankful? Or will they be exhausted from cooking all day, anxious to watch the football game coming on TV, or worried about the calories they will intake? Maybe they want to avoid a certain person sitting across the table from them. Others are wondering when the stores offering Black Friday sales will open and what excuse can they give to leave the table early.

What do all of these “ungrateful” folks have in common? They are thinking mostly of themselves. We humans are wired with that tendency.

Paul tells the Corinthians, and us, today to instead be generous; which requires us to not think of ourselves, but to be considerate of others. Like people who don’t have a family, or a warm home, or even food.

When we learn to be generous, it is easier to be thankful; because we realize everything comes through the generosity of GOD. Blessings are given to us so that we could then bless others, trusting that Jehovah will continue to provide for us, no matter what.

That was the original meaning of Thanksgiving for the Pilgrims. They had been through famines, storms, and hardships in this new land. But GOD came through. So they shared the things they had and gave thanks to GOD for providing help when they needed it the most. Praise GOD and give thanks to Him this day and everyday for His Blessings and His Goodness that He has bestowed upon us.

 ~ Prayer ~
Father GOD,
As we enjoy this Thanksgiving with our loved ones, I just want to say thank you for everything.
You are a gracious and giving GOD; and because of you we will all partake of this wonderful meal prepared by the hands you have blessed.
Keep us, and be with us this Thanksgiving day.

In the name of Jesus I pray this prayer.
Amen
